KAERATANA'S BLOG FEED

Travel Keepsake Boxes

From the Archives Author's note: This is part of a simple new series on the blog. Here, we will be re-blogging archived DIYs posted on the first Kaeratana blog from days of yore and dedicating them to our lovely new friends. This particular post was first published by krafty + kaeratana on 27th November 2013. Happy crafting! Are you one of those people who, while travelling, keep every theater ticket, every bus stub, even nick a pair of disposable chopsticks while eating at a restaurant in Cambodia, with every intention of compiling it all into one smart scrapbook back home? Well, I am. Of course, I daydream about a bookcase with rows of identical scrapbooks of the different places I have been to, so I keep every foreign token I can possibly get a hold of or anything I can use for the purpose. Alas, let's be honest, that's just not going ...

DIY Diecut Mini Envelopes

You know how there are some things that we feel we could just do all day, like lounge by the beach or luxuriate in hours-long spa activities? Also, make tiny envelopes. Probably a very small margin there, but that's almost what I did last Sunday. Trust me, this could get addictive. Made with the Xcut Mini Envelope Die Set, these teeny tiny babies are great for adding mini pockets to your planners (you could even make matching and fully functional envelope paperclips), sending little (likely, one-word) notes, or making an envelope booklet with tiny trinkets in each. Just about anything you could use an envelope for.  The finished envelopes are approximately 3.5 cm x 2.5 cm. The die itself is roughly a 2-inch square, so it can fit all die-cutting machine sizes, including your Tattered Lace Baby Blue, Spellbinder Prizm or other smaller-sized machines. Tip: These envelopes were made with the ...

DIY Die-cut Butterfly Box

diy butterfly boxes Gift giving day is around the corner, and we are getting close to that corner every morning. So we make gifts. And because we, here, love doing stuff, we make easy die-cut boxes for them too. This butterfly-lock gift box was made with the Xcut Butterfly Box die. The die is part of the Xcut series of A4 die sets and may require the larger die-cutting machines to use, such as the A4 Xcut Xpress. If you are using the A4 Xcut Xpress, simply set your pressure knob according to the thickness of your paper medium, and it's good to go. Here I have used different weight paper and have adjusted the Xcut Xpress knob as needed, shifting points anywhere between #4 and #5. Once you have the die-cuts, there is very minimal assembly required. Just fold along the embossed lines, glue the protruding side tab to ...

Maylikha Series: EI Project’s Handmade Impressions

photo and handmade piece by eylin of ei project Tassel earrings and dome keychains are the expertise of our second Maylikha artist. As this series continue to feature local creative entrepreneurs, we got in touch with Eylin, the woman who is able to fuse fun and elegance in her handmade products through her shop, the EI Project. A graduate of Industrial Design from UST, Eileen does greeting cards and gift items for the German Market professionally. Although she prefers "Eylin," she weaved the name of her business from the two letters of her name, EI. "I thought it would be more meaningful if E I initials would also stand for Expressions and Impressions since my creative endeavors mainly revolve on those two words," Eylin shared. Her way of expressing her creativity and passion is through her handmade trinkets, which include tassel earrings and glass dome keychains, which can be personalized ...

Maylikha Series: Dreamy Creations From Crafty Papillon

Unicorns, princesses, mermaids, and all magical creatures don't just appear in books and movies these days! We can watch them come to life in pieces we can use on a day to day basis. This is what Crafty Papillon Handmade Crafts and More creatively delivers through its well loved handmade resin collection and many more. Photo and handmade piece by Vanessa of Crafty Papillon To kick off our revamped Maylikha series, we got in touch with Vanessa Erika dela Merced, whose gifted hands are behind the enchanting, delicate pieces of Crafty Papillon. She describes herself as an IT Analyst by day and a crafter by heart. She started Crafty Papillon in February 2015 as a creative outlet when she stopped doing event’s styling. Today, she continues to create items, and this story we believe could inspire and empower young creatives to do the same. Quick trivia: Crafty Papillon actually came from the founder's name, ...

Our Favorite Sans Serif Alpha Dies

One of the many things I am not surprised I am asked a lot about is what are good alphabet dies to have. Because Alpha dies (along with sentiments dies) are always useful, it's always good to have them around. This is one of those times it even makes sense to have several of them. I am a minimalist crafter and even I like to keep a lot of these alphabet dies. Just as we work with fonts digitally or different writing styles in practical arts like calligraphy and lettering, alphabet dies are the way we play around with typography when it comes to papercrafting. I originally planned to provide a helpful list of alphabet dies that you could find on the market (and I still hope to!) but decided to work with one set in particular for today: the Xcut A5 Set: Alpha (Wedding Ever After) xcut - alphabet ...
